Psalm 2
1: Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
2: The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD,
and against his anointed, saying,
3: Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
4: He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
5: Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
6: Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
7: I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten
thee.
8: Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the
earth for thy possession.
9: Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
10: Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
11: Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12: Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a
little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
This psalm is not only prophetic, but it exposes the motives, intentions, and utter hypocrisy of all of those high-minded, arrogant jerks
that rule the world under the pretext of working to build a better society. There is no such thing as a "better society" apart from God. The
best laid plans of secular humanists have resulted only in tyranny, oppression, injustice, and inequality. The movers and shakers which
shape and control the world governments have turned God's Planet Earth into a place of misery and torment. They have rendered this
world uninhabitable for the true believer in Jesus Christ --- But then, maybe it is supposed to be that way, isn't it?
"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the
world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." (1 John 2:15-17)
"For our conversation ( citizenship) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:"
(Philippians 3:20)
The psalmist begins by asking the questions, Why do the heathen (godless) rage against God, and why do the vast majority of the
people imagine that their ways will prevail against God's ways? Don't they understand that no one can fight against God and win? To
struggle against God is an exercise in utter futility: It is a vain thing!
In verses 2 and 3, we are told that the kings of the earth, and the rulers, which are all those that are rich and occupy positions of
influence in society, have determined in their hearts to resist the will of God, and to obliterate all vestiges of the worship of Jesus Christ
from human society. Jesus Christ is God's anointed, and they are dead set against him. They cry out constantly in every public forum,
saying that the precepts of Jesus Christ are subjecting the human race to abject bondage: It's time to throw off those restrictions, and build
a New World Order! Barak Obama has been saying that very thing throughout his political campaign, while trying to win the vote of the
sodomite and lesbian community. He claims that the Word of God is archaic, obscure, and no longer relevant to today's society. It is time,
he says, to throw off the bonds of Christian Fundamentalism, and loose the people from the ropes of God's precepts that are holding them
back from evolving into supermen. God has heard every single word that has passed from that blasphemer's lips.
In verse 4 we are told that God is laughing those movers and shakers to utter scorn: He is openly exposing their folly to the Heavenly
Hosts, and making them an object of derision.
But their is a limit to God's patience. In verse 5 the psalmist declares that God will soon speak out against them in his wrath, and will
vex, or persecute them in his sore displeasure. God is doing that right now, and it's only the beginning. Just go to the Book of Revelation,
chapters 8 through 13, and read what happens when the seven trumpets of God's judgment are sounded. If man refuses to submit to
God's judgment, then the next thing they will experience is God's wrath, and that is something that we hope no one ever experiences --- but
we know they will.
In verses 6 through 8, God plainly and unequivocally declares that the movers and shakers of human governments and societies are not
the one's in control: He has declared his only begotten Son to be the Crown Prince, and that Jesus has asked specifically for the heathen
to be his inheritance, and that he is given authority over the entire earth.
In verse 9, God has instructed his only begotten Son to rule the nations of this world with an iron club, and to dash their governing
systems to pieces as if they were nothing but clay jars. The presidents, prime ministers, premiers, kings, and sultans will have to tow the
mark rigidly. They will have to keep their big mouths shut, and do what Jesus commands them to do without question.
In verses 10 through 12, the psalmist advises the rulers and the judges to stop being fools, and smarten up before it is too late. If they
want to do the smart thing, they will start serving the Lord in fear and trembling, instead of being wise in their own eyes. If they are half as
smart as they claim to be, they will kiss the Son, i.e., pay homage to Jesus as Lord and Savior, before his anger really gets stirred up, and
they perish in the midst of their pursuits.
But remember what the psalmist declares emphatically in verse 12, dear believer in Jesus Christ: If you are trusting in Jesus, and
placing no confidence whatever in the institutions of man, you will be blessed beyond anything ever imagined in you heart.
"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath
prepared for them that love him." (1Corinthians 2:9)
May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all, Amen.
